Hurricanes add Islander to lineup for upcoming

June 13, 2018

Josh Bourque will wear the maroon and black this season for the Holland Hurricanes men’s basketball team.  The Charlottetown native was the captain of the Charlottetown Rural Raiders and represented PEI at the Canada Games last season.

“I chose to enroll at Holland College because it has a great reputation; I am fortunate to have such a great school so close to my home,” he shared.

The 6’4” forward excels in his shooting ability and his rebounding; he is also a player that maintains his composure during tense situations in games.

Head coach Josh Whitty has this to say about adding Bourque to his roster.

“We’re happy to be adding Josh to our program,” he shared.  “He’s a fine young man and has lots of upside.  He’s a strong shooter and has good length for his position.  We’re certain he’ll make a solid addition to our roster over the next couple of seasons.”

Bourque is entering his first year in the Business Administration program and looks forward to the challenge of balancing his academic and athletic responsibilities while attending Holland College.

“I look forward to bringing my enthusiasm to the team while improving on the court and learning in the classroom.  I’m very excited to play at the collegiate level in my hometown and look forward to competing with the best teams in the country; I’ll do anything I can to help our team win.”

The men’s basketball Hurricanes have won the last six ACAA titles while also taking home bronze medals at the last three CCAA National Championships; they open up their 2018-19 ACAA regular season on October 27 when they host the STU Tommies at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
